"Camouflage"
- The use of concealment and disguise to minimize the possibility of detection
and/or identification of troops, materiel, equipment and installations. It
includes taking advantage of the natural environment as well as the application
of natural and artificial materials. [Department of Defense].
Since 2003, there are some major changes to the traditional woodland and
tri-desert military camouflage patterns. New camouflage schemes are being tested
and adopted by different branches of the military in order to meet the demands
of the current operational environments. Some schemes, such as Crye MultiCam and
the Army Universal Camouflage Pattern, were designed specifically to
function in multiple environments. Earth tone colors, such as coyote brown,
foliage green, and grey green, are getting a lot of attention among special
force groups as well.
There are several critical factors of camouflage and concealment: Color, Pattern, Shine, Shading, Surface, Fabric composition and movements. These all work together to determine the effectiveness of design.
At Emdom, we proudly offer various state of the art camouflage schemes and earth tone colors. In order to give client a better understanding of these colors, we made this “Color Matters” page. Various military gear (from Government supplies, and other manufacturers) were put side by side for color and tone comparisons. All pictures were taken without any flash. We hope this page will help customers select and create the best personal camouflage scheme for their own operating environments. Our focus is to increase soldiers' battlefield survivability and combat effectiveness, promised!
Crye Multicam
Multicam is a camouflage pattern developed by Crye Precision with the US Army Natick Soldier Research Center for the Army Combat Uniform program. It was designed to work in multiple environments, seasons, light levels and the IR spectrum. The design was passed over in favor of the universal digital camouflage pattern for use in the ACU program. It is so far the best universal camouflage pattern available.
Army Universal Camouflage Pattern (ACU Program)
The Army Universal Camouflage Pattern (ACU Program) is created for the new combat uniform to be worn by the Army. It uses a universal camouflage, a digital pattern similar to that of Marines Corps MARPAT. It blends green, tan, and grey and is claimed work effectively in woodland, desert, and urban environments. It is officially adapted by the US ARMY June 14, 2004. MARPAT is a digital camouflaged pattern developed and in use by the United States Marine Corps. There are woodland MARPAT and Desert MARPAT patterns. The pattern comprises a number of small pixels of color which aims at disrupts human symmetry (disruptive camouflage approach). All genuine MARPAT fabric has the Marine EGA emblem hidden in the pattern (trade-marked).

Coyote Brown
Coyote
Brown
is one of the earth tone color we offered. It is a very
effective basal color in
"blending camouflage"
approach. Brown
is even a better color than green even in many situation where its vegetated
because brown dirt is visible even if grass is gone. Special force operators
always further spray on coyote gear to achieve the best camouflage for their
operating environment. Indeed, Marine Corps have adopted coyote brown as their official
color for their solid color gears. Emdom's own coyote brown (we
called it Coyoteish) is specially dyed into a range between the darker USMC coyote
brown and Eagle industries Khaki. This specific color range is more universal, and is able to
blend perfectly with USMC desert MARPAT, USMC Coyote Brown, Khaki, Mulitcam, and even
Tri-desert camouflage. See pictures for your reference.
Sewer Green
Sewer Green is another basal earth tone color we offered. It represents the ground vegetation of woodland, grassland, and semi-desert environment. It looks darker and has more grey when comparing to the standard military olive drab and olive green. Operators also called it the smoke green or grey green. The Army Ranger also has a similar color called the Ranger Green. Emdom is also working on another earth green color named foliage green. Coming soon.
